about us.

Jacob is our four year old son. Along with his daddy, Rich, we are a family that is way too familiar with hospitals, blood counts and chemotherapy drugs. At just 12 weeks old, Jacob was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma, a rare childhood cancer that affects the cells of retina. A week later, he had his right eye removed to save his life, and has since undergone six rounds of chemotherapy and numerous general anesthetics to keep the tumours in his left and only eye under control. He is an unbelievably happy and strong little boy and Rich and me couldn't be more proud of him. We recently got the news that the tumours in his left eye are dead, and the likelihood of a new tumour growing is minimal. This comes after 3 courses of intraarterial chemotherapy which unfortunately caused Jacobs sight to severely deteriorate, but killed the tumours.
We became a family of four (five if you include the dog!) in June 2015 when our little girl Alba was born. Fortunately, she doesn't carry the cancer gene that Jacob does so will not need regular screening. For this, we feel very, very lucky.
Feel free to follow this blog about Jacob's journey and our lives together.
